About

JIŘÍ STIVÍN deals with the interpretation of pre-classical music on the flute since 1975. He studied the cinematography at FAMU, after graduating, he devoted himself exclusively to music. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. His flute teachers were Milan Muncingler (Ars Rediviva) and Jiří War (Czech Philharmonic). Stivín performs music from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Baroque periods. He has recorded concertos for flute (4 CD Vivaldi, Telemann). Mastered all kinds of transverse flutes and recorders. Apart from music, he is also involved in jazz, composing and improvisational New Music, using saxophone, clarinet, transverse flute, recorder flute. He also use several kinds of folk whistles. As a soloist, he works with renowned orchestras (Virtuosi di Praga, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, Slovak Chamber Orchestra, Prague Madrigalists, Due Boemi, Suk Chamber Orchestra, Talich Quartet, etc.), manages his own ensembles Collegium Quodlibet and George Stivín and Co Jazz Quartet. He performs at solo recitals with harpsichord, organ, guitar, or playing alone aor with a tape recorder. For over ten years, he has concerts each season at the Prague Symphony Orchestra concert series called "flutes of all kinds."
